Over the past couple of months I've been doing a little bit of book buying... And buy a little, I mean a lot. Today and Friday I'll be sharing a two part haul, with part one being books bought in July and part two being books bought in August. I've quite a mixed bag of books to share, so I'll just get on to it.
| Extraordinary Means by Robyn Schneider | Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard | Us by David Nicholls | The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North | The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman | This House is Haunted by John Boyne | Wonder by R.J. Palacio |
Already Read | Of the seven books purchased I've already read four; in order, Red Queen, Wonder, Extraordinary Means and The Ocean at the End of the Lane (DNF'ed).
Most Excited To Read | I'm really looking forward to reading This House is Haunted; I get a Jane Eyre / The Woman in Black vibe from it. I'll be saving this one to read October time, befitting of Halloween I think.
What books have you purchased recently?
This House Is Haunted sounds perfect for fall! I visited my friend a while back and we went to a fabulous used bookstore. I bought A Monster Calls, Ann Patchett's Truth and Beauty, and a few other books. :)
ReplyDeleteIt does, doesn't it?! Also, I love a good ghost story.
DeleteOoo, some great finds. A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness is a really gripping read, and quick to get through too!
I was doing so well this year with limiting my book buying, but then I went on a bit of a crazy binge when I took a blogging break -- so many books! I have This House is Haunted, but I haven't read it yet -- also I'm still curious about Ocean At the End of the Lane even though it was a DNF for you -- I haven't read any adult Gaiman, so I'll have to see how it compares to his younger stuff!
ReplyDeleteHaha. My crazy book buying worked the opposite way, when I got back in to book blogging! I am basically on a book buying ban now but will be touching upon that in a future post.
DeleteI have this thing with Neil Gaiman - this is the second book I DNF'ed. It's weird because I enjoy his style of writing and I can see why so many enjoy his work, but there's just something stopping me from connecting with it properly. I don't know, it's hard to explain. Haha!
Oh that would be interesting to see how the two compare!
Four out of seven is awesome. My problem is that I'm so excited to read the books I buy, yet they somehow sit on my shelves (sometimes for years!) before I get around to reading them. I should really try to do something about that. :)
ReplyDeleteHaha! My buying and reading ratio isn't always so great, it's just I was really excited for a lot of the books I bought! At least with having them tucked away for a while when you rediscover them it's like you bought it :-P
DeleteThe First Fifteen Lives of Harry August has been on my wishlist for a while but I never get around to picking it up. This House is Haunted sounds really interesting.
ReplyDeleteI didn't really buy any books in August. I've just been using the library a lot and reading ARCs :)
^ That comment is me. Used an old account by mistake! Useless.
DeleteHaha, no worries.
DeleteI'm really keen to read Harry August but it's a case of so many other books I want to read too! I love a good ghost story and so am looking forward to starting This House Is Haunted.
Me and the library are going to be seeing more of each other for quite a long time now - buying ban on the horizon.
