Earlier this year I compiled a list of ten books I hoped to read before summer arrived, when updating that post I realised how motivating holding myself accountable was and decided to create a list of books I hope to finish by the end of the year. With my TBR at a minimum now, I thought I'd focus on the collected story editions I own, many of which have bookmarks residing in them.

| THE COMPLETE SHORT STORIES: VOLUME ONE 1944 - 1953 BY ROALD DAHL | | ROALD DAHL'S BOOK OF GHOST STORIES | | THE MURDERS IN THE RUE MORGUE AND OTHER TALES BY EDGAR ALLAN POE | | THE SNOW QUEEN AND OTHER WINTER TALES | | DICKENS AT CHRISTMAS BY CHARLES DICKENS |
I'm not entirely sure how attainable it is to have completed all of these by the time the year draws to a close, especially with The Snow Queen and Other Winter Tales being quite the chunkster, but I'm going to make a conscious effort to pick these books up and make a good dent in them at least.
What books do you have on your TBR?
What books do you have on your TBR?
That is an ambitious goal! But finishing even some of them and making progress on others would be awesome I think :)
ReplyDeleteI thought so when creating the goal, but I'm hoping having it as a fixed goal will help me to pick them up more - I'm terrible at working through my short story collections because I get so caught up in my main reads.

I love the idea of holding yourself accountable to finish things. I make lists but very rarely really use them to determine what I'm going to read next. I should definitely get better about that. The Dahl collection looks especially interesting. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI'm not so good with monthly TBR's and such, but with a wider time frame I find I do work well with the set goal. Plus, sharing it here on the blog gives me a bit of extra motivation. Ah, hopefully you are able to work on that - make it a goal to work towards goals :-P

I bet The Snow Queen and Other Winter Tales is fantastic. I used to read a ton of fairy tales. Perhaps I should pick it up for this winter!
ReplyDeleteI love dipping in and out of fairy tales - Angela Carter's Book of Fairy Tales is a great one if you haven't read it before.
DeleteI'm super excited for The Snow Queen and Other Winter Tales... It is a chunkster though, so dubious if I'll get that one finished. Fingers crossed!
That's a good idea to have a book (or books) that you can just read bits and pieces of at a time. I've heard Dickens' Christmas tales are really good. I've only ever read A Christmas Carol. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI find it great for when I want to read, but don't entirely want to commit to a full blown story at the time.
DeleteI've also only read A Christmas Carol in terms of Dickens Christmas related books - I've heard so many good things about that particular title.
Thanks!
I wasn't into short story collections. But that was when I had all the time in the world to read. Now with a 4 year old, and a full time job, I have learnt to value them. I am able to read when I want to - in bits and pieces - without committing to a full blown novel, and I am so thankful for that.
ReplyDeleteWishing you the best with your reading goals.
That's exactly the way in which I enjoy short stories... I think they're very much a personal preference thing, and whilst some collections can be hit or miss, once you've evolved your own personal reading zone within short stories it is a lot easier to enjoy dipping in and out.
