As the new year begins, I'm delving into a much anticipated read of mine - Dark Pines by Will Dean.
I always put great thought into the book that I'll see the new year in with as I think it sets the tone for the reading year that is to come... Typically I wait until the 1st of January to start the book, however with this title I have started reading a day earlier as I do hope to review it within the week.
Do you start the new year on a clean slate with books or do you bring books with bookmarks in into the new year?
Either way, with whichever book you're starting 2018 with, I wish you the happiest of new years - reading & otherwise!

I sort of do both... I can have a fresh slate for my “main” book (and I don’t know what my first will be yet!) but I also am 2/3 through an audiobook and halfway through a short story collection. Enjoy this one and Happy New Year Jade!
ReplyDeleteOoo... I do wonder what you'll pick as your first book of the year!
DeleteThank you, Christine - a happy new year to you & your family.
I definitely bring books with bookmarks. At a certain point, I cut off my reading for a year and start reading books up to the last page. These I bring with me into the new year. That way I start out strong.

Cutting your reading off at a certain point is a great plan for those who read multiple books at a time.
DeleteI hope you have a great reading year in 2018!
I’m starting new books today! I hope you love Dark Pines. I haven’t read it, but the synopsis sounds amazing.

New year, new books - I hope you enjoy!
DeleteI tried to start the year with a clean slate. It was really tough the last couple of days not starting anything new. I do have a few books I may finish up this year, though. I hope Dark Pines is a great read!
ReplyDeleteI had the opposite problem to you - trying to finish my book before the end of the year!
DeleteHappy reading in 2018!
Great choice. I like to start the year with a clean slate. Opted to catch up on my New Yorker reading over the weekend and start my First Book today. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteStarting the new year with a new book is such a joy - one of those simple life pleasures.
DeleteA happy new year to you & happy reading!
Happy New Year Jade. I give lots of thought also but I couldn't decide this year and went with a Christmas present which is a story told in poems, a simple pleasure of mine.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks, Marce - and to you. I hope you enjoy your first book of the year!
DeleteThis sounds so good and a seriously spooky first book! Can't wait to see your thoughts!
ReplyDeleteI actually managed to finish Dark Pines the same day... I did start the day 40% of the way through though! I really enjoyed it - a solid start to the reading year - and my review will be up in the next few days.
DeleteI usually pick my "first book of the year" to start on January 1st, even if I'm finishing up another one. This year, though, we were travelling over the holiday. I ended up starting it December 30, but only getting a few pages in before the new year started.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you started the year with one you were really looking forward to. That's the best way to do it!
Thanks Julie - I hope you've been enjoying your first book of the year!
DeleteI prefer to start the New Year with a fresh book but typically have one lingering that I wasn't able to finish up because of holiday plans. Your first read sounds like a good one!
ReplyDeleteA fresh book is a great start to the new year - I hope your first read proved to be a good one!
